Summer Lite

I like the television shows that provide home improvement ideas.  Some of the best changes are the little things that just spark up a corner table or provide new focus for the room. We have family and friends over quite a bit, enough that new furniture or entire room make-overs are not feasible. But I still like to provide some fun changes for guests.  The changes can be minor, like seasonal flower arrangements or even candles.

I did a quick change to our mantle in June to brighten it up for summer. By mid-June, our mantle tends to be the collection center for graduation and wedding invitations, birth announcements, thank you cards, mother day cards and father day cards, and end of school year activities. I collect the cards and pictures up, and have a box for filing in all these cherished memories.

So time to redecorate!  I had a real find at JoAnn Fabrics and Crafts one afternoon and found 2 planters in clear glass, on serious mark-down price. I had two white candles, summer scents of lavender and honeysuckle from Pier One, also on mark down. But that was not enough.

I wanted some sparkle and interest. Lucky me, I had some small glass beads left from a previous project.
Still not enough for me.

So I added texture…basic Morton’s Rock Salt!

My end products are very pretty, and will last most of the summer. We light the candles in the evening and they provide such a wonderful glow and light fragrance of summer. I love how they literally lighten and brighten the mantle!
